Lebenszeichen oder: Die Russinnen halt

„It’s the beginning of march and I am in Russia. Sparkling snow is piled everywhere. The paths through the woods are packed snow, and it squeaks and crunches under foot. There are mysterious tiny holes in the path. They remind me of the little holes that clams make on the tidal beach in order to breathe. I realize after a few days that these holes are made from the high heels of the women walking on the snow. I admire their ability to walk with these boots and shoes while I am precariously treading the path in my sturdy German boots.“
